The Survey and Mapping Division (SMD) of the Lands Commission marked a significant moment on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, as it bid farewell to three dedicated staff members who have retired after decades of committed service.
A short but heartfelt ceremony was held at the Director’s office at the Head Office to honour the retirees and celebrate their achievements. The Acting Director of the Survey and Mapping Division, Surv. Naa Seidu Zakari Abu, on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary, noted that the three officers had fulfilled all requirements as land surveyors and, as such, were being officially licensed to undertake the demarcation of boundaries and conduct land surveys across the country, in line with the Survey Act, 1962 (Act 127) and the Lands Commission Act, 2008 (Act 767).
As part of the ceremony, the retirees took both the Oath of Allegiance and the Licensed Surveyors’ Oath, reaffirming their commitment to professional integrity and ethical practice. Following this, they were presented with their professional licenses.
The newly licensed surveyors are:
- Surv. John Amanortey Amartey – License No. 478
- Surv. Alexis Fogenja Kutu – License No. 479
- Surv. Richard Abanya Mawuli – License No. 480
The Deputy Director of SMD in charge of Research and Development, Surv. Eric Mensah Okantey, commended the retirees for their dedication and impact, highlighting their invaluable contributions to the Division’s progress.
Surv. Alhaji Abdul-Hanan Iddrisu Abu, Deputy Director for Administration and Finance, expressed his admiration for their selfless service and gave thanks for their good health and long-standing commitment, which he described as exemplary.
In brief remarks, the retirees expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities they had received and the friendships they had formed over the years. They looked forward with optimism to their next chapter.
Colleagues and staff present wished them well in their future endeavours, applauding their dedication and service to the Survey and Mapping Division and the Lands Commission as a whole.
