WORKING VISIT BY THE HONOURABLE MINISTER FOR PUBLIC ENTERPRISE SECRETARIAT

A 7-member team led by Hon. Joseph Cudjoe, Minister for Public Enterprises paid a working visit to the Lands Commission on 7th November 2022. He was accompanied by his Chief Director and five (5) other senior officers. He was welcomed by the Management of the Lands Commission led by the National Chairman, Mr. Alex Quaynor. The purpose of the Hon. Minister’s visit was to acquaint himself with the challenges faced by the Commission and discuss with Management how best to overcome them.

The National Chairman welcomed all present. The Executive Secretary (ES) gave a brief speech on the structure and functions of the Commission and some challenges it faces in carrying out its mandate. One of the challenges highlighted was judgment debts that arise out of the non-payment of compensation for compulsory acquisition due to delays or disputes or unavailability of funds. This causes the accounts of the Commission to be frozen. Thus, making it difficult for the Commission to carry out its activities during such periods.

The Hon. Minster indicated that his Ministry is providing diligent financial oversight over all public agencies to ensure that they can deliver their functions responsibly. He also suggested that he will invite the Lands Commission at its next CEO’s meeting to educate agencies that we render service to on the issues raised by the ES in his presentation to minimize our challenges especially those that lead to the freezing of the Commission’s account because due process is not followed by acquiring bodies during compulsory acquisition.
