DEPUTY MINISTER OF LANDS AND NATURAL RESOURCES PAYS A WORKING VISIT TO THE WESTERN REGIONAL LANDS COMMISSION OFFICE

The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Akwasi Konadu has visited the Western Regional Lands Commission office as part of his duties. The visit began with an inspection of various divisions, including the CSAU and Records divisions, followed by a closed-door meeting with the regional management team at the Best Western Plus Hotel.

Surv.Dr. Pius Asumadu, the Regional Lands Officer, welcomed the Deputy Minister and his team and commended them for their thoughtfulness. He noted that the visit had rekindled enthusiasm among the staff, who are eager to advance the digitization agenda.

Hon. Konadu highlighted the critical role of land administration in the Western Region, especially given its rich natural resources, including oil. He stressed that efficient land management is key to reducing disputes and enhancing the region’s development. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by the regional office and assured the staff that solutions would be sought. The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of moving from manual record-keeping to digital systems, aligning with the government’s commitment to digitization.

The Deputy Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, in charge of operations, Surv. Maxwell Adu -Nsafoah reiterated the need to improve the Commission’s image and data reliability. He announced that the Ministry of Finance had approved a significant transformation project, which would begin in the Greater Accra, Western, and Ashanti regions. This initiative aims to enhance land services and ensure the accuracy of data through digitization.

During the meeting, Dr. Asumadu outlined several challenges, including the need for a new office complex after the previous one was destroyed by fire in 2019, the lack of generator power for the CSAU, and issues with vehicle allocations.

The Deputy Minister assured that these concerns had been taken into account and would be addressed.

Key officials present at the meeting included Mr. Joseph Osiakwan, (Technical Director – Forestry, Ministry of Lands & Natural Resources), Mr. Matthew Ababio -(Director of Policy Planning, Evaluation & Monitoring Directorate), Mr. Frank Adigbo (Dep. Director, Policy Planning, Monitoring& Evaluation Directorate -MLNR), Mr. Hope Agbah, (Ag.Technical Director, -Lands, MLNR )and Surv. Michael Appiah- (Head, Monitoring & Evaluation Unit, LC).

Also present were heads of the various divisions and some staff.
