LANDS COMMISSION BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF NEW REGIONAL OFFICES IN DAMONGO AND BOLGATANGA

The Lands Commission has commenced the construction of two new regional offices in Damongo and Bolgatanga, as part of its strategic plan to establish permanent offices in all 16 regions of Ghana. The sod-cutting ceremonies, held on April 21 and 22 respectively, mark a major milestone in the Commission’s quest to improve land administration and service delivery across the country.

Speaking at both events, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Yusif Sulemana who represented the sector minister emphasized the importance of the initiative to national development. He called for precise land demarcation to reduce disputes and urged Lands Commission staff to uphold professionalism in delivering services. The Deputy Minister also announced that the Ministry is seeking $165 million in investor funding to digitize the Commission’s manual records and streamline operations nationwide.

At the Damongo ceremony, Surv. Maxwell Adu-Nsafoa, Deputy Executive Secretary (Operations) of the Lands Commission, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to owning permanent regional offices. He revealed that the Damongo office is one of 12 similar projects currently underway and assured the public that the two-storey building will be completed within 12 months.

The site for the Damongo office was donated by the Dagbon Wura, who welcomed the Lands Commission delegation and pledged his full support for the project. Prior to the ceremony, the team paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler to seek his blessing for the commencement of work.

Savannah Regional Lands Officer, Surv. Noel Toutir, expressed gratitude for the project, highlighting how it would relieve the Commission of longstanding challenges associated with rented office spaces. He described the project as a timely intervention that would enhance operational efficiency.

The Savannah Regional Minister, Lawyer Salisu Bi-Awuribe, who is also a former staff of the Lands Commission, welcomed the initiative and advocated for the establishment of district-level offices to further decentralize land administration. He emphasized that digitizing land records would also promote transparency and improve public trust in land services.

The event was chaired by Kalikowura Haruna Sachibu, a former Director of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

In the Upper East Region, the Commission also broke ground for the construction of a three-storey regional office in Bolgatanga. Upper East Regional Lands Officer, Surv. Jonathan Cobblah expressed confidence that the new building would significantly boost the Commission’s operations, especially in reducing turnaround time and enhancing public education on land services.

Representing the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Alhassan Ibrahim, who chaired the event, described the project as timely and vital to the region’s development.

Both regional offices are being constructed by CK Engineering and Construction Limited, with a strong focus on quality and timely delivery.

These infrastructure projects form part of the Lands Commission’s broader agenda to modernize land administration and strengthen institutional presence across the country.

The head of the Project Management Team, Mr. Galley Derphor was also present at both functions.
