NEW AHAFO LANDS COMMISSION BOARD SWORN IN TO ADVANCE LAND REFORMS

The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Sulemana Yusif, on Wednesday, 28th May 2025, inaugurated the newly constituted Ahafo Regional Lands Commission Board.

The ceremony, held at the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council, saw the swearing-in of 13 board members who will oversee land administration in the region.

In his address, Hon. Sulemana expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of Ahafo for their continued collaboration with the government in promoting efficient land administration. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the land sector as part of broader efforts to enhance the quality of life for Ghanaians.

The Deputy Minister explained that establishing the Ahafo Regional Lands Commission Board aligns with Article 258 of the 1992 Constitution and the Lands Commission Act. He urged the board members to acquaint themselves with relevant land laws and regulations to enable them to execute their mandate effectively.

He further noted that the inauguration of the board marks a significant step in Ghana’s decentralization drive aimed at enhancing land governance at the regional level. Efficient land administration, he emphasized, is critical to national development, particularly in supporting the government’s vision of a 24-hour economy through secure land tenure, prompt transactions, and effective land use planning.

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Mrs. Charity Gardiner also addressed the gathering and expressed full confidence in the new board. She encouraged members to uphold professionalism, diligence, and integrity in their duties.

“This appointment is not just an endorsement of your competence; it is a call to serve the good people of Ahafo,” she said. “I trust that you will rise to the challenge and work together to shape a more effective land administration system in the region.”

Acting Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Surv. Prof.Anthony Owusu-Ansah welcomed the new board members and pledged the Commission’s support to help them succeed in their roles.

In his acceptance remarks, the newly elected regional Chairman, Hon. Opoku Atuahene highlighted the vital role of land in Ghana’s development agenda.

“As stewards of this sector, we have a critical responsibility. Land remains the bedrock of investment, agriculture, housing, industry, and environmental sustainability,” he stated.

The inauguration concluded with a call for collaboration and commitment to ensure that land reforms in the Ahafo Region deliver real impact to citizens and support national development goals.
