In a significant meeting convened by the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly, on 2nd may 2024, representatives from the Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission discussed pressing land management issues within the municipality with key officials of the municipality.
Surv.Yvonne Sowah, Chairperson of the Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission, and Surv. Timothy Anyidoho, Acting Regional Lands Officer, represented the Greater Accra Regional Lands commission.
During his presentation, Surv. Anyidoho highlighted the pressing issue of illegal land occupation on parcels designated for the Ghana Water Company (GWC). This misuse of land has exacerbated flooding problems in the area, a concern that has grown due to the improper residential settlement.
Further addressing the Assembly, Surv. Anyidoho emphasized the importance of adhering to sections 12-14 and 38 of the Land Act, focusing on land registration processes.
In response to these challenges, surv. Yvonne Sowah urged the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly to establish a Customary Land Secretariat to enhance record-keeping and streamline land management operations.
The meeting also allowed for a question-and-answer session where municipal officials could clarify concerns and lay out plans for future collaboration.
Hon. Wilfred Ayitey Blankson, the Presiding member of the assembly, extended his gratitude towards the Regional Lands Commission. He praised the insights provided by Mr. Anyidoho and his team, noting the value of the information shared and its potential impact on improving local land governance.
The discussions marked a proactive step toward addressing land-related issues within the Weija Gbawe Municipality, aiming to foster improved management and use of land resources to benefit the community and stakeholders.
