In a heartwarming celebration of Mother’s Day, the Lands Commission Ladies Association (LACOLAS) visited the Nsawam Female Prisons to not only spend time with the inmates but also make substantial donations to support ongoing projects within the facility.
The delegation, led by Surv. Dr. Mrs. Theodora Mends, the President of LACOLAS, delivered essential items including boxes of sanitary pads, bags of water, packs of soft drinks, boxes of biscuits, and bags of rice. Additionally, they contributed 50 bags of cement, earmarked for the construction of an ultra-modern therapists’ diagnostic center aimed at enhancing inmate rehabilitation.
DSP Ernestina Lartey, the Officer on duty, welcomed the group and expressed her gratitude for their thoughtful contributions and for choosing to share this special day with the inmates.
Dr. Mends highlighted the significance of the visit, noting that the association aimed to offer love, care, and affection to the inmates on a day dedicated to honoring mothers and mother figures.
The event was also graced by Surv. Yvonne Sowah, the Greater Accra Regional Chairperson and patron of LACOLAS, and Surv. Timothy Anyidoho, Acting Regional Lands Officer for Greater Accra and a life patron of the group.
LACOLAS’s initiative at Nsawam Female Prisons underscores their dedication to Corporate Service Responsibility. The construction of the new facility is anticipated to bring significant improvements in the mental health and well-being of the inmates, aligning with broader goals of social rehabilitation and reintegration.
