ADVISORY BOARD OF MINISTRY OF LANDS AND NATURAL RESOURCES VISITS LANDS COMMISSION

In preparation for their impending exit as the Advisory Board of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, members of the board, led by the chairman on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, paid their final working visit to the Lands Commission to abreast themselves with progress on activities at the nation’s land administrative institution.

The visit afforded the distinguished board members to engage with key figures at the Commission on the challenges facing the Commission and make subsequent recommendations to the sector minister on how to address or mitigate those headaches crippling the Commission from effectively delivering on its mandate.

Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, the Chairman of the Advisory Board and Paramount Chief of the Assin Kushea Traditional Area commended the Management of the Commission for their consistent support and assured that the challenges will be documented and relayed to the current minister, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor and any other person who will assume the role in the future.

The Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Surv. Benjamin Arthur presented a holistic overview of the Commission’s activities, achievements, their challenges.

He congratulated the outgoing board members for their service to the Commission and the country.

Surv. Arthur highlighted several notable achievements, including the establishment of the Complaints and Advisory Centre (CAC) and the establishment of the corporate office for banks and other institutions to transact business directly with the Commission. The office according to him is going to be staffed by professionals who would provide top-notch service to these corporate institutions because these staff have received hands-on training and are expected to deliver excellent service to reduce the frustrations of the institutions.

He again touched on the modernization of records management in Accra, Kumasi, and some regions which is helping with the archival and retrieval of information, thereby reducing the turnaround time. He added that the implementation of the Public Private Partnership will be the game changer as the entire country is going to be flown to get accurate land data which would form the basis for a better land administration system.

Extensive sensitization activities, human resource development, the introduction of online services, infrastructural development, and some redevelopment projects form part of major interventions to ensure the Commission becomes a centre of excellence for land services delivery

He also noted an increase in revenue generation, which he attributed to the introduction of online services, which is enhancing service delivery and other factors.

Additionally, he mentioned the completion of the Legislative Instrument for the Land Act, the Report on Devesting of Lands, and the policy on large-scale acquisition as major successes the Commission has chalked.

The Committee had the opportunity to interact further with management, seeking clarification on issues to have a better appreciation of the challenges and also made recommendations.

In attendance were the Chairman of the National Lands Commission, Mr. Alex Quaynor, Chairperson of the Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission, Surv. Yvonne Sowah, Mr. K.D. Osei, Eastern Regional Chairman, Deputy Executive Secretary (Operations), Surv. Maxwell Adu Nsafoah, some management members, and other senior officers.
