LANDS COMMISSION EMPOWERS STAFF OF GHANA AIDS COMMISSION ON THE LAND ACT AND OTHER LAND-RELATED ISSUES

The Lands Commission has added the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) to the list of institutions that have received education on the Land Act and land related matters.

At a session that took place at the head office here in Accra, on 5th September 2023, staff at the head office and across the regions who joined via Zoom availed themselves to be schooled on very pertinent issues such as

  • the Core mandate of the Commission
  • The functions of the Various divisions
  • processes involved in land acquisition, management and registration
  • Some Sections of the Land Act.
  • Some interventions put in place for the public to access the Commission’s Services, and other issues.

Surv. Jackline Sarfo- Dikoh, a Senior Land Administration Officer, who assumed the  crucial role in leading these sessions, imparting practical wisdom and expertise, ensured the session was so practical for staff to relate to and better appreciate the issues.

Surv. Sarfo-Diko’s extensive presentation brought to light some key issues concerning due diligence and the Dos and Don’ts of the land acquisition processes and cautioned the staff to engage the services of professionals from start to finish of the process.

The principal aim of this training was to empower GAC staff, enabling them to independently access Lands Commission services, thus reducing reliance on intermediaries. It endeavoured to instil a profound understanding of the land acquisition process and foster familiarity with the Land Act, with the overarching goal of advancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

Throughout the program, participants were provided with guidance regarding critical considerations before embarking on land acquisition venture and had opportunity to ask questions which made it more interactive.

The management of GAC expressed support for this awareness initiative, noting its positive impact on how staff perceive the Lands Commission.

They underscored the significance of disseminating this newfound knowledge.
